Osteoporosis Screening

Millions of Americans are at risk for osteoporosis, a disease that causes bones to become more porous, fragile and likely to break. Osteoporosis can progress painlessly and unnoticed until a break occurs — typically in the hip, spine or wrist. By this point, however, the osteoporosis has usually progressed to a point where little can be done to restore bone density.

DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorption) Bone Densitometry scans are the best way to diagnose osteoporosis at an early stage, in many cases even before symptoms occur. They are fast, safe, painless and non-invasive, and are highly recommended for women over 60. Although osteoporosis strikes four times more women than men, older men should still consider a preventative scan.
